August payroll employment rises (+96,000); unemployment rate edges down (8.1%) [ http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm ] 09/07/2012 Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 96,000 in August, and the unemployment rate edged down to 8.1 percent. Employment increased in food services and drinking places, professional and technical services, and health care.
